Proposal for five day week in Kendriya Vidyalayas

UNSTARRED QUESTION NO-2247 by SHRI K.N. BALAGOPAL

(a) whether any proposal has come before Government to make five day week for Kendriya Vidyalayas; and
(b) if so, the details thereof?

ANSWER by MINISTER OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT (SHRI KAPIL SIBAL)

(a) & (b) The matter of introduction of five day week in Kendriya Vidyalayas was taken up in the Academic Advisory Committee of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan on 19.05.2011. The proposal was not approved. No such proposal has come before the Government.

Sir,

This is apropos news item titled “KVs Plan 5-day week to give students space”
which appeared in page “TIMES NATION” in your esteemed daily news paper Times of
India on 29-08-2012. In this regard, it is clarified that the issue regarding
5-day week was only discussed in the JCM but there is no such proposal under
active consideration of KVS at the moment.
