Education Cess: Utilizing for Mid Day Meal Scheme (MDMS) and the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA)

Will the Minister of         HUMAN
RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT        be pleased to
state:-

(a) whether his Ministry receives Education Cess for the
development of education sector;

(b) if so, the details of such Education Cess received
during the last three years, year-wise;

(c) the
manner in which the Education Cess was spent/utilized during the said period;

(d) whether it
is a fact that there is huge unspent balance on account of Education Cess; and

(e) if so, the
details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto?

(a) to (c): Yes, Madam. The funds received on account of the
Education Cess by this Ministry, in the last three years, their utilisation for
the Mid Day Meal Scheme (MDMS) and the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and the
expenditure thereon can be seen in the table below:

# The figures of expenditure for 2009-10 includes sums
accumulated from previous year.

(d) & (e):The funds have been fully utilised in 2009-10
& 2010-11. In the year 2011-12, only 1.8% of the funds remained unutilised.
