NDA launches website to track attendance of government staff online
New Delhi: In what could be termed as an innovative step, the NDA government has launched an “attendance website” in order to monitor and track the work of government officials and to create a centralized database.
The website, attendance.gov.in, is still in the development phase. Officials said the website is expected to be modeled on the lines of similar websites of the Jharkhand state government and the Department of Electronics and Information Technology.
The home page of the Jharkhand government’s attendance website not only gives information about the total number of employees present on the given day but it also facilitates search for any registered employee with complete details. It also provides the employee’s attendance and leave status.
The Centre’s website is likely to copy most of these features of state website, officials said and added that this will take transparency to a very higher level and this is what this government wants too.
It may be recalled that Narendra Modi had recently wished for an Aadhaar-based biometric attendance systems.
The website will fetch information from attendance record entered on the biometric devices in government offices. And this information will in turn act as a centralised management information system (MIS) for attendance.
The website spread across 113 organisations and currently has nearly 16,000 registered users with maximum number of them from the Planning Commission
Based on either the first six or last six digits of the Aadhaar number, the database for all central government staff will be maintained centrally.
