No Faith in Parrikar’s Statement on One Rank One Pension: Ex-Servicemen
New Delhi:  Armed forces veterans staging a protest in New Delhi to press their demand for ‘One Rank One Pension’ (OROP) said today that they have no faith in Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s statement that the OROP notification would be issued after the Bihar polls.
“The minister has changed the goalposts and hence the veterans have no faith in this statement,” Major General Satbir Singh (retd), who has been spearheading the Indian ex-servicemen’s movement on the issue, told IANS.
“Keeping in view the track record of the government and the minister on OROP implementation, we have no faith in this statement. This is just another statement. He has been changing the goalposts,” Mr Satbir Singh said.

“He said it is a gift. What gift? It is our right… not a gift. We are very angry and aghast at the delay in (implementation of) an already sanctioned scheme,” said the veteran soldier.
On Sunday, the veterans wrote a letter signed in blood to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The government announcement on September 5 regarding OROP has seven serious shortcomings. If implemented without the removal of these shortcomings, it will kill the very definition of OROP which has been approved by two parliaments, strongly recommended by the Koshyari Committee and promised by you to ex-servicemen and armed forces personnel,” the letter said.
Mr Parrikar toady said the OROP notification would come after the Bihar polls, and the government was trying to issue it before Diwali, which falls on November 11.
The fifth and last phase of Bihar polls would take place on November 5, with counting of votes on November 8. The model code of conduct will remain in force till November 12.

  • No. It is all very well planned to get votes in Bihar. No ministry can speak or write without PMO prior approval which is under direct PM's control. It is all Modiji Plan . You see Pension is transfered to pension a/c on 27/10/15 before Bihar 3rd voting on 28/10/2015. It is also announced OROP before Dipawaly. Why? Merely because to get votes in Modiji's favour. I request Bihari Youth to be very careful from Modiji and his party specially FM who first spoke of Win in 2 votings held and now he is making ? ( lower class ) C M Bihar. These are Modiji' s plan through Jetliji's Mouth. I know Bihari youth is very intelligent. Hope, they don't make FOOL themselves..

PRIME MINISTER DO NOT HAVE TO TIME TO HEAR DEFENSE ISSUE IN OUR COUNTRY AS HE IS BUSY IN TOURING AND MEETING ALL NATION /THEIR LEADERS. WHO BOTHERS ABOUT INDIA ?????? BJP HAS ANOTHER AROUND 4 YEARS

I totally disapprove the statement by Maj Gen Satbir Singh.

    • Very nice of you to disapprove Maj gen satbir singh's statement. He has fought all the Wars for India and Won them all. Have you shed any drop of sweat at India's Borders? Be Honest.

    • Mr. K R Chetty, i do not disregard your thought as it gives me an impression that you have also like PM and DM not presumed yourself to be at Border where risk of life is involved. Sons/ husbands who joined Army to earn and support them have either been wounded ( still on death bed) or killed and others are fighting …at borders. Request you to realise their stress and tension ( Mental) thinking of gift of Govt. OROP not being considered. I will not like you to realise the pathetic condition of members of the families who are wounded and killed in WAR. Some are facing Life and Death. I feel and realise as I faced conditions at sea fighting Submarine Warfare having left my mother and wife at Bombay without any money. Attacked Karachi harbour at mid night from a distance of 18 km. having lost INS Khukery ( sunk by submarine tarpedow) . We also were not fritend at all. I am in touch with suffering families. Maj Gen Satbir Singh is looking after many and fighting for them not for Self. Hope if you could understand and realise and then think of Mr Parikar who is our God Father. Regards,

  • I am very happy to read Gen Satbir's remarks. How can one trust Mr Parikar? He should be ashamed of making such statements which he knows he can't implement. One month, before Navratras and now Bihar elections. Does he not know that implementation of OROP is already approved by two Parliaments. Implementation does not attract any adverse action by Election commission. If it does then even this statement by him should be objected to by EC.
