Request to expedite decision for enhancing Fixed Medical Allowance for Pensioners from Rs. 1000 per month to Rs. 3000 per month

Request to expedite decision for enhancing Fixed Medical Allowance for Pensioners from Rs. 1000 per month to Rs. 3000 per month. In a letter dated 5th October 2023, Bharat Pensioners’ Samaj, an All India Federation of Pensioners’ Associations, addressed Hon’ble Smt. Nirmala Sitaraman, Finance Minister of the Government of India, urging the expedited decision for enhancing the Fixed Medical Allowance from Rs. 1000 per month to Rs. 3000 per month.

The letter highlights that the Parliamentary committee on Pensioner’s Grievance had recommended this enhancement in its 110th report dated 10th December 2021. The recommendation was based on the understanding that many pensioners face health issues in their old age and struggle to manage with meager pensions, especially since CGHS hospital facilities are not available in every town.

The communication mentions that the recommendation was forwarded to the Ministry in January 2018 for a final decision. Subsequently, it was sent to the Finance Minister’s office in May 2023. The letter suggests that the Ministry was examining the matter and that the Finance Minister had given her approval.

The Bharat Pensioners’ Samaj expresses its anticipation that the Finance Minister’s office will provide clearance for the issuance of orders regarding the enhancement of the Fixed Medical Allowance. The letter is signed by D.D. MISTRY, Secretary of BSNL/PSU.

In essence, this letter is a formal request to expedite the decision-making process and implement the recommended enhancement of the Fixed Medical Allowance, which would greatly benefit pensioners facing health challenges in their retirement.
