Sub.: Introduction of Centralized CBT / TBT for promotion to Group ‘B’ posts in Miscellaneous and Isolated Cadres.
Ref.: Railway Board’s letter of even number dated 23.01.2026.
As already informed vide Board’s letter under reference, it is being planned to introduce a Centralized Computer Based Test (CBT) / Tablet Based Test (TBT) as the Written Examination component for 100% Selections for promotion to Group ‘B’ posts in Miscellaneous and Isolated Cadres.
2. The modalities for implementing the aforesaid examination pattern are presently under examination in the Board’s office. In the meantime, to ensure a smooth transition to the new examination pattern, the following course of action may be adopted :
(i) In cases where notifications have already been issued, the ongoing selection processes may be completed by 30.06.2026. However, as for any vacancies already taken into account for the period overlapping with the proposed common cycle (01.01.2027-31.12.2028), the vacancies for the common cycle may be assessed excluding the same.
(ii) In cases where notifications have not yet been issued, the existing vacancies may be clubbed with those of the proposed common vacancy cycle commencing from 01.01.2027 for which selection is proposed to be conducted through the proposed Centralized CBT/TBT.
3. This issues with the approval of the Competent Authority.
