Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state:-

(a) whether the Railway Board has refused to recognise the degree awarded by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) under distance education system;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Railways does not recognise degrees awarded under distance education courses by other institutions besides IGNOU; and

(d) if so, the reasons therefor?

(SHRI MANOJ SINHA)

(a) to (d): This Ministry does not recognize the Diploma/Degree in Engineering obtained through distance learning mode obtained from institution including Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) except for which specific instructions have been laid down. This is in line with guidelines issued by nodal Departments/Ministries of Government of India viz. Distance Education Bureau (erstwhile Distance Education Council) and Ministry of Human Resource Development.
