The decision was detailed in a memorandum issued by the Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare (DoP&PW) on May 4, 2026. The demand for a funeral grant was originally raised as a new agenda item during the 35th Standing Committee of Voluntary Agencies (SCOVA) meeting held on March 10, 2026, chaired by the Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.
Rejecting the proposal, the Department of Expenditure cited a lack of statutory framework, stating:
“There is no existing rule or provision governing the grant of financial assistance towards funeral expenses of a pensioner.”
Consequently, the government has officially closed the matter, confirming no such allowance will be introduced.

इस निर्णय की जानकारी पेंशन एवं पेंशनभोगी कल्याण विभाग (DoP&PW) द्वारा 4 मई, 2026 को जारी किए गए एक ज्ञापन में दी गई है। अंतिम संस्कार के लिए अनुदान देने की यह मांग मूल रूप से 10 मार्च, 2026 को कार्मिक, लोक शिकायत और पेंशन राज्य मंत्री की अध्यक्षता में आयोजित 35वीं ‘स्कोवा’ (SCOVA – Standing Committee of Voluntary Agencies) की बैठक के दौरान एक नए एजेंडे के रूप में उठाई गई थी।
इस प्रस्ताव को खारिज करते हुए व्यय विभाग (Department of Expenditure) ने स्पष्ट किया:
“पेंशनभोगी के अंतिम संस्कार के खर्च के लिए वित्तीय सहायता प्रदान करने के संबंध में कोई मौजूदा नियम या प्रावधान नहीं है।”
परिणामस्वरूप, सरकार ने इस मामले को आधिकारिक तौर पर बंद कर दिया है, जिससे यह पुष्टि होती है कि इस तरह का कोई भी भत्ता शुरू नहीं किया जाएगा।
