OFFICE MEMORANDUM

Subject: Review of existing identified Local Languages for GDS Engagement in the offices located in the State of Sikkim – reg.

Attention of all concerned is hereby invited towards the OM of even number dated 25.03.2021, followed by Corrigendum dated 20.07.2021 and OM dated 09.06.2023 on the above subject.

2. In continuation of the aforesaid OMs, the Department has reviewed the list of local languages identified for the purpose of engagement of Gramin Dak Sevaks in respect of offices of the Department located in the State of Sikkim and following modification has been approved in this respect:

Sikkim :

a) The local language(s) for the purpose of engagement of GDS in the Post offices /other offices of the Department situated in the State of Sikkim shall be as under:

“English and any one of the following 12 languages — Nepali, Bhutia, Lepcha, Limbu, Newari, Rai, Gurung, Mangar Sherpa, Tamang, Sunuwar or Bhujel — studied at the 10th standard level.

b) In cases where the candidate has not studied the aforesaid language(s) up to the 10th standard, proficiency in the concerned language shall be verified on the basis of a Certificate of Proficiency issued by the Joint Director (Languages & Text Book), Education Department, Government of Sikkim, or any other authority, duly notified by the Government of Sikkim in this behalf from time to time.

1. General Manager, CEPT Bengaluru – It is requested to configure local language of Sikkim State in the GDS Engagement Portal in accordance with the decision taken in the matter for upcoming GDS Online Engagement Schedule.
2. Director (Budget), Dak Bhawan, New Delhi – for information in continuation with office note no. 14-06/2024-GDS dated 08.10.2025 of GDS section.
