Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026 – G.S.R. 820(E): MEA Notification dated 15.09.2026 on Revised Fees and Minor Passport Validity

NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 15th September, 2026
G.S.R. 820(E).— In exercise of the powers conferred by section 24 of the Passports Act, 1967(15 of 1967), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Passports Rules, 1980, namely:─
1. (1) These rules may be called the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026.
(2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.
2. In the Passports Rules, 1980, ─
(a) in rule 8, for sub-rule (1), the following sub-rule shall be substituted, namely : ─
“(1) The fee payable on every type of application specified in Schedule IV shall be at the rates specified in the corresponding entry for such application in that Schedule.”.
(b) in rule 12, for sub-rule (1A), the following sub-rule shall be substituted, namely : ─
“(1A) An ordinary passport for a child below the age of fifteen years, containing thirty-six pages, shall be in force for a period of five years from the date of its issue or until the child attains the age of eighteen years, whichever is earlier”

Note.─ The Passport Rules, 1980 were published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, section 3, sub-section (i) vide notification number G.S.R. 691(E), dated the 11th December, 1980 and was last amended vide notification number G.S.R. 156 (E), dated the 20th June, 2026.
