Reservation in Promotion: Latest update

•  Government wants to provide SCs & STs with quota in
  promotions.

• It is also willing to extend the benefits to members of
  Other Backward Classes (OBC)

• Top law officer, the Attorney General, however, has
  cautioned that the move is legally vulnerable.

• Government now plans to remove the term “inadequate
  representation” from Article 16(4) of the Constitution to end any
  confusion with regard to the move.

• It will also remove the term “efficiency of
  administration” from Article 335 of the constitution, so that those
  getting the benefit of quotas are not subject to any discrimination.
