Sub: Adoption of Smart meter/Prepaid meter for Railway Installations.
Ref: i) Board’s letter no. 2009/Elect(G)/150/7 dated13.05.2009.
ii) CEA’s notification dated 23.12.2019.
iii) Board’s letter of even no. dated 03.06.2020.
Vide Board’s letter dated 03.06.2020 (Ref.-iii), instructions were issued for the provision of pre-paid meters for the installations (Railway staff quarters, Vendors, Private contractors’ offices, restaurants, Union offices, etc.) from which Railways has to collect charges for consuming electricity. The Railway staff quarters were excluded in the first phase.
2. The matter regarding the provision of smart meters/prepaid meters has been reviewed in the light of rapid technological advancements and to eliminate manual interventions, enabling real time data acquisition and establishing a framework for centralized energy monitoring across the network.
3. Therefore, in supersession to the previous policy dated 03.06.2020 (Ref.-ii), it is advised that all installations (Railway staff quarters, Vendors, Private contractors offices, restaurants, Union offices etc.) from which Railways has to collect charges for consuming electricity, should be provided with Smart meters/Pre-paid meters. Work may be got sanctioned in PH-36 as per requirement.
This issues with the approval of Board (M/T&RS).
