Ambiguity in determining eligibility for promotion to Senior Scale of Group ‘A’ officers on Indian Railways: Clarification by Railway Board vide Order dated 14.08.2026

विषय/ Sub: Clarification regarding ambiguity in determining eligibility for promotion to Senior Scale of Group ‘A’ officers on Indian Railways.

संदर्भ/ Ref: Railway Board’s letter No. 2025E (GC) 16-8 dt. 27.01.2026.

In regard to the abovementioned subject, it is clarified that,

“Notwithstanding anything contained in Board’s instructions dt. 27.01.2026, referred to above, a Group ‘B’ officer who has been inducted into regular Group ‘A’ service but has not yet completed three years’ service in Junior Time Scale shall also be eligible for consideration for ad-hoc promotion to Senior Scale, provided that he would have otherwise fulfilled the eligibility prescribed for Group ‘B’ officers under the extant instructions.”

This issues with the approval of the Competent Authority.
