Mode of intake of Assistant Loco Pilot in Indian Railways reiteration of instructions by Railway Board vide letter dated 11.08.2026

Sub: Mode of intake of Assistant Loco Pilot in Indian Railways reiteration of instructions reg.

Ref: Railway Board’s: letter No E(NG)I/2018/PM1/2 dated 14.05.2018 (RBE No. 69/2018).

Attention is invited to IREM Vol. I Para 137(1) vide which the posts in the category of Assistant Loco Pilot (Diesel/Electric) in Grade Pay Rs. 1900(Level-2) are filled as under:

1. 50% by lateral drafting from amongst the volunteering Diesel/Electric Loco Fitters of Diesel/Elctric Loco Sheds with three years’ service, failing which Diesel/Electric Loco Fitters with less than three years service but total service of six years and Diesel/Electric Loco erstwhile Group ‘D’ staff of Diesel/Electric Loco Sheds and staff of technicians categories in GP Rs.1800/- working in EMU, DEMU & MEMU sheds with a total service of six years in respective Sheds, having the qualification of course completed Act Apprenticeship in Mechanical/Electrical/ Electronic Engineering trade or Matriculation with ITI as an additional preferable qualification with upper age limit of 35 years (40 years in the case of SC/ST).
2. 50% plus the shortfall, if any, against (I) above by direct recruitment through the Railway Recruitment Boards.

2. It has been observed that shortfall of vacancies against para 1(I) above are not being added at the time of placing indents for Direct Recruitment vacancies leading to vacancies not being filled up in a timely manner. All Railways may accordingly ensure that any shortfall against para 1(I) above must invariably be included while placing the next indent for Direct Recruitment quota vacancies.
