Schemes for Widow of Ex-servicemen : Lok Sabha Q&A

The number of widows of ex-servicemen in the country is 547097 as on 31.12.2011, as per available data.  Apart from pensionary benefits admissible to widows of ex-servicemen, Government is also implementing several welfare Schemes for these widows.

3.       Prime Ministers Scholarship Scheme: To encourage higher technical and professional
education for the wards of widows scholarships are given @ Rs. 1500/- per
month
for girls and Rs. 1250/- per month for boys.
4.       Reservation of Defence Quota Seats in Medical/
Dental Colleges
 as Govt of India Nominee
for the wards of War Widows & Widows under priority I & III
respectively.
5.       War Memorial Hostels:- 35 War Memorial Hostels have been constructed with a view to
provide shelter to the children of War Widows and widows. Recurring grants are
provided to War Memorial Hostels for wards of War widows and widows @ Rs.
1350/- p.m. and Rs. 675/- p.m. for attributable and non-attributable cases
respectively.  
  
B.      Resettlement Schemes
i)       Ex-Servicemen
(ESM) Training
        Widows
of ESM are eligible for training courses provided that the individual has not
utilized resettlement training facility during his service or after retirement.
ii)      Re-employment
        In
Group ‘C’ posts under the Central Government as well as Public Sector
undertakings as per terms & conditions laid down.
iii)     Self
Employment
a.           
Coal Tiipper Attachment Scheme: This
welfare scheme for widows/disabled soldiers is linked with the ESM Coal Loading
and Transportation Scheme.
b.        Mother Dairy Fruit &Vegatable (Safal) Shops: Mother Dairy India Pvt. Ltd. is providing
Fruit and Vegetable (Safal) Shops .
c.         Allotment of Oil Product Agencies under 8%
Defence Quota:
Under this Scheme 8% of
Oil Product Agencies are reserved under Defence Quota in LPG Distributorship,
Petro/Diesel retail outlet including KisanSeva Kendra (KSK) and SKO/LDO
Dealership (Kerosene Oil Agency).
d.        Allotment of LPG Agencyunder Rajiv Gandhi Gramin
LPG VitrakYojana
e.         Allotment of Regular LPGDistributorship under
18% Quota
f.          Allotment of Army Surplus Vehicles: Ex-Servicemen and widows of deference personnel who died while in
service and Ex-Servicemen Co-operative societies are eligible to apply for
allotment of Army Surplus Class V-B Vehicles.

Will the Minister of DEFENCE be pleased to state:-
(a) the number of widows of ex-servicemen at present in the country; 
(b) whether any special programme is being run by the Government for assistance and welfare of widows of ex-servicemen; 
(c) if so, the details thereof; and 
(d) if not, the reasons therefor?

MINISTER OF THE STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE (SHRI M.M. PALLAM RAJU) 
(a) The number of widows of ex-servicemen in the country is 547097 as on 31.12.2011, as per available data. 
(b) & (c) Yes Madam, apart from pensionary benefits admissible to widows of ex-servicemen, Government is also implementing several welfare Schemes for these widows. The details of such schemes are available at Annexure. 
(d) Does not arise.
