Introduction of wage code

Will the Minister of LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT be pleased to satate :-
(a)whether it is a fact that Government plans to introduce a wage code that will replace central laws pertaining to wage related matters and cover both the organized and the unorganized sectors;

(b)if so, the details thereof;
(c)whether it is also a fact that Government has invited suggestions from various corners in this regard; and
(d)if so, the details thereof ?

MINISTER OF STATE (IC) FOR LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT
(SHRI BANDARU DATTATREYA)

(a) & (b): The Second National Commission on Labour had recommended that the existing Labour Laws should be broadly grouped into four or five Labour Codes on functional basis. Accordingly, the Ministry has taken steps for drafting a unified Labour Code on Wages based on the provisions of the following four Labour Laws:-

(1) The Minimum Wages Act, 1948.
(2) The Payment of Wages Act, 1936.
(3) The Payment of Bonus Act, 1965.
(4) The Equal Remuneration Act, 1976.

(c) & (d): Apart from general suggestions received from various stakeholders which is being given appropriate consideration, the Ministry will be carrying out tripartite consultations before finalizing the Labour Code on Wages.
